The department

Our team of business services staff play a significant role in the success of Dentons, and we recruit staff into a wide variety of areas. Here, we look for focused, flexible individuals from a variety of backgrounds who are team players. Previous experience within the legal sector is not essential. We want to give everyone the opportunity to develop his or her potential fully and, therefore, provide support, training and encouragement to members of staff at all levels.

Purpose of role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead our award-winning digital team, continuing our highly successful program of digital transformation. After a period of significant development, we are now in a sector leading position, with an excellent digital platform and an expert team providing a high level of support to all parts of the organisation.

The firm is currently recruiting a Global Head of Digital Marketing and Business Development who will shape and direct the digital marketing and online business development strategies and activities across the firm. The Global Head of Digital Marketing and Business Development will report to the Global Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer and work closely with the Global Business Development Director, the Global Communications Director and Global Brand Director, as well as the firm's Regional Marketing and Business Development Directors (Australia, Canada, China, Europe, Singapore, the UK, Middle East and Africa and the United States).

The candidate will have team leadership experience and will manage a mixed-discipline digital department, providing a point of leadership across digital content, marketing, and production. A keen eye for technological excellence, a firm grounding in user led approaches and a commitment to using technology to deliver excellent results for a diverse range of audiences is key.

Responsibilities

The Global Head of Digital Marketing and Business Development will lead the firm's global digital marketing and business development strategy supporting all external facing online properties, e-Commerce, e-Marketing, social media and database marketing programs. The individual will work closely with the Global Communications Director to development and implement an online thought leadership program and social media strategy This individual, working closely with the global business development director, will be also be responsible for the development of online client acquisition and retention strategies which help increase client retention and the firm's revenues. As part of this role he/she will be responsible for:

Developing website functionality that enhances our user experience, connects clients and other visitors to the information they need and helps the firm build a meaningful online brand
Lead the development of an online content strategy that effectively delivers firm messages and key/personalised content and information to clients, prospects and key stakeholders with the objective of generating deeper client relationships and/or acquiring new clients.
Developing an on online strategy that includes a strong emphasis on online branding and positioning, digital media buying, planning and advertising, product and service development, mobile marketing, social media, SEO and SEM
Ability to interpret primary and secondary research to develop personas, a customer journey and communications planning
Experience building a strong digital analytical capability that enhances our understanding of our clients, helps shape strategies to acquire and grow clients
Ability to develop a strong understanding of the firm's brand and values including what drives client acquisition, engagement, conversion, retention, loyalty and advocacy
Develop trust amongst the firm's leadership team and working in a strong collaborative environment with directors within the marketing and business development team as well as with the firm's IT, risk and other key stakeholders
Build an effective and efficient global database and supporting data management capability that ensures quality data for use by partners and the marketing and business development teams. Deliver a cost effective database solution that drives value
Work in a matrix environment while providing leadership and management of a global digital marketing team of approximately 20 individuals located in a variety of countries worldwide
Advise and provide strategic counsel to firm leadership and other stakeholders on the effective use of digital solutions to achieve business objectives
Work with digital production agencies, media agencies and other external businesses and consultants on digital delivery, creating and maintaining a roster of approved agencies /provider and ensuring that standards and governance processes are in place
Become a digital ambassador for the organisation, ensuring latest thinking and insights on digital are shared in and outside of the organisation; offering skills and training as appropriate
Shape and sell digital transformation across the organisation, building on work to date to improve our ability to succeed in a digital world and embed an ambitious strategy that will support the whole organisation
Monitor trends in digital development and audience behavior, using findings to inform digital strategy, data management, development and future projects
Work collaboratively with leadership to learn from our data, use KPI's to promote growth and improvement, and ensure data- driven decisions are taken in respect of our digital product development
Oversee digital content planning and strategy, ensuring a strategic approach to content development that places the user at the heart, secures our visibility and reach, and ensures continued optimisation and focus
Provide counsel and direction for a team of skilled digital marketers, ensuring continual learning and improvement is delivered and shared both within the team and more broadly
Lead a complex production schedule, providing robust technical maintenance and optimisation across existing products and ensuring the appropriate enhancement and expansion of the digital product portfolio in support of priority business objectives. As part of this to ensure that all products and services meet stringent security standards, are robustly tested
Work with senior management to enhance the capture and use of audience data, ensuring compliance with data protection and other legal obligations, improving audience engagement and reach
Lead a program of digital innovation and development to ensure best possible products and strategies are used to drive income, build relevancy and maintain profile (creating opportunities for new audiences where relevant)
Lead the Digital team, providing clear direction, staff development, talent management, appraisals and performance management
Be accountable for the robust management of the Digital team's budget and financial planning
Work with colleagues in IT and the digital agencies to agree technical architecture which is required to support proposed solutions
Ensure that best practice is employed within the team and third parties, and that appropriate controls and governance is in place to ensure value and quality in production and operation

Required experience, skills and attributes

Experience working with law firm leadership and an understanding of professional services marketing
The ideal candidate has a proven record as a strategic thinker with the ability to influence senior leaders across a complex global organisation
Must demonstrate the ability to drive innovation and lead cross-functional teams
Required Masters degree or equivalent experience; MBA desired
An understanding of databases and CRM
Excellent B2B e-Commerce marketing credentials, creativity, organisation and a successful track record in creating and executing effective digital marketing programs
Proven experience developing strategic partnerships with external vendors to deliver commercial relationships which offer best value
