Main Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a dynamic leader in translational medicine. As a Principal Scientist, you will provide exceptional scientific and strategic leadership to understand oncology diseases and apply this knowledge to aid development of MedImmune's exciting portfolio.
You will help to lead a team of lab-enabled scientists / Sr. scientists and bioinformatics analysts to mine genomic and proteomic data from internal and external collaborations and clinical trials to develop high profile manuscripts and help establish scientific leadership for MedImmune. In addition, you will lead one or more Translational Science sub-teams that will apply knowledge derived from such analysis to develop testable personalized healthcare strategies. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to lead diagnostic teams to turn predictive biomarkers into companion diagnostics.
This is an important, high profile and visible role where you can leverage your outstanding communication and leadership skills, to build strong relationships with key stakeholders in Clinical, Research and other relevant functions within MedImmune and external academic collaborators. You should be viewed as a strong scientific and strategic leader who can work with a fast-paced clinical and product development organization to translate fundamental insights into the molecular heterogeneity of human disease into targeted therapeutic and biomarker hypotheses that can be tested in clinical trials. You will be expected to drive the publication of biomarker data in top-tier scientific, technical or medical journals.
- MD, MD/PhD or PhD degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. molecular biology, cell signaling, bioinformatics) or equivalent experience
- Academic and/or industry experience post-MD/PhD experience
- Outstanding record of innovative contributions to translational sciences in oncology as evidenced by a strong publication record including first / senior-authored publications in top-tier journals, inventorship on patents/filings and presentations at important conferences.
- Prior experience managing a group of research associates, scientists or leading a matrix team
- Outstanding verbal and written communications skills are a must.
- Experience in analyzing large datasets including genomic and proteomic together with a sound understanding of critical development functions, e.g. Clinical Sciences, Biomarker Development, Translational Medicine
