We're currently looking for talented scientists to join our innovative academic-style Postdoc. From our centre in Cambridge UK, you'll be in a global pharmaceutical environment, contributing to live projects right from the start. You'll take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a focus on drug discovery and development, given access to our existing Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research in cutting edge laboratories. It's a newly expanding programme spanning a range of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines.

What's more, you'll have the support of a leading academic advisor, who'll provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career. This is an exciting area that hasn't been explored to its full potential, making this an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science.

About AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.

Discovery Sciences

Our Discovery Sciences team operates from truly state-of-the-art centres spanning the UK, US and Sweden. You'll work with some of the most knowledgeable technology experts in the industry, all collaborating on high-profile drug discovery projects. With a wide range of responsibilities, from sample management and screening to bio-reagent supply, the opportunities to develop your expertise here are limitless.

AstraZeneca are firm believers in pushing the boundaries of Science, in this postdoctoral position we are engaging with synthetic biology to harness the power of bacteria in a way that has only recently become possible. This position is targeting cutting edge science and discovery that will enable you to publish the articles that everyone wants to read and show proof of principles that lay the foundation of future medicine development.

This position will be a challenging one with significant return on your investment should it prove successful; there are clear milestones and a combination of Academic, Biotech and Industrial collaborators that will allow every chance of success. This position will build on achievements of a recently completed Postdoc in our Oncology disease area that focused on the use of TRAIL in combination with other agents in spheroid assays and will also combines a T-Cell recruiting peptide and novel pro-drug combination to develop a unique triplet approach packaged and delivered using bacteria with the ultimate aim of targeting solid tumours. We will first generate a series of bacteria that contain the component parts, work with Spirogen (within the AstraZeneca family of companies) to test novel pro-drugs using simple cell models to demonstrate the effects of the individual elements. This will progress to the combination of elements within complex cell models to form proof of principle in vitro.

This is an opportunity to shape an exciting piece of work at the cutting edge of synthetic biology, where you will work in leading industrial laboratories in collaboration with top academics. You will also be responsible for driving this project and conducting your own independent research and will be expected to publish and potentially patent outcomes from this work
