Category Manager - Engineering Competitive package Reporting to the Head of Procurement this is a key role within the Facilities and Property division at one of the UK's leading bus operators. They carry millions of passengers in the UK every year. They have more than 20,000 employees who represent the diverse communities they serve. They are looking for an exceptional procurement and supply professional who can help to deliver the business objectives. Assuming full responsibility for a holistic Category Strategy delivering tangible business benefits in terms of significant, sustainable cost reductions, operational supply management efficiencies and broad-based supplier performance improvements. This is a full time permanent position and the successful applicant can be based in Luton, Derby or Wakefield. The role Develop and lead breakthrough business projects in spend categories using advanced category management tools Drive significant, measurable & sustainable business advantage, exceeding year on year targets Understand full life cycle costs and develop appropriate cost/procurement models for decision making and performance reporting in specific spend categories Develop flexible, robust supplier networks capable of meeting the dynamic needs of the business Drive supplier competition, development and rationalisation as appropriate Build supplier relationships with key vendors & service providers to deliver results-based business advantage Develop supplier and supply market expertise to inform category strategies Work with internal customers to ensure category projects are delivered on time and within budget Develop effective working relationships with operational Purchasing Managers to ensure category strategies are delivered and effective at Operating Companies and business units Develop effective working relationships across the wider group to fully develop opportunities and synergies. Our ideal candidate will be an experienced Category Manager with experience of structured Category Management tools and principles and a demonstrable record of delivering significant tangible financial benefits. A background in MRO procurement, engineering spares and materials would be a major advantage. Applicants should be well educated and CIPS qualified or working towards Qualification. We are looking for strong analytical and financial capabilities combined with commercial negotiating skills.
