There is currently a vacancy for an Aero-Elasticity/Aero-Mechanics Specialist in Mechanical Methods - Physical Sciences to join us in Engineering Capability. Engineering Capability sits under Central Engineering and has corporate responsibility for developing methods and software for structural integrity assessments of components, contributing to the next generation of design tools for Rolls-Royce products. In this role, you will be working with the company's global community, interacting with different teams consisting of both internal experts in the UK, EU and US, and external world leaders in the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centres. Key Accountabilities Developing the Aero-Elastic/Aero-Mechanical capability covering all aspects of vibration and particularly fluid structure interaction. Developing methods, practices and processes in the Engineering System for a wide range of applications: from fan flutter and forced response to labyrinth seal stability. Actively demonstrating and validating the use of novel or advanced methods across a range of business sectors. Engaging closely with and providing active support to the user community. Qualifications Degree or equivalent qualification, ideally in Maths, Physics, Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering, or equivalent in experience. Knowledge or background in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods. Experience of methods development. Previous experience in a Mechanical Technology area dealing with Aero-Elastic\Aero-Mechanics issues is preferable. Experience in applying Finite Element Analysis to Aero-Elastic and mechanical integrity problems using commercial/in-house software. Ability to programme in FORTRAN, C/C++/Java/Python or Matlab would be an advantage. You will have proven ability or potential of co-ordinating a global team of technical specialists.
